It will darken with use and conditioner. It will also not do this evenly, it will become a very distinct seat with its own coloring. If that sounds like something you'd like then give it a try. I deal with saddles ALL the time so I do have tons of leather aging experience, light gets darker where you sit and all conditioners makes light leather darker, some conditioners do this more than others.
I would like some honest opinions about the color of this seat. It is a Corbin gunfighter in Mercedes Tan Leather. My bike is a 2013 Candy Orange RG which has gold pin stripe. Sometimes I look at the seat and like it and other times not so sure it would look good with the Candy Orange. What do you think ?
Butterscotch because you are asking it tells me you are not 100% comfortable with the colour and seats are expensive. Put that on your bike and my bet is you will regret it.
Well thanks for the replies Gents. I can get this seat for about $100 bucks off retail and that's why I was considering it. Although it is a no return purchase which I'm leery of.
QTRRACER: What type of conditioner would darken the color noticeably ?
Usually neatsfoot oil will darken stuff up, I don't use it on any saddles because of that. I used Skidmore Leather Cream on one lighter saddle and it did darken up the leather a bit. Your body sweat and oil will be absorbed thru your clothing into the saddle and darken up the leather. We usually never notice that on motorcycle saddles because they are almost always black. But on horse saddles this darkening is very obvious and I try to keep it to a minimum.
Personally I think it will look great, especially with the color of your pinstripe. I'm always wanting to be different. Just check out the color of my new Limited. You have no idea how much hell I've caught over that color. I work in the upholstery industry and am debating making custom seat and backrest covers for it in brown and tan.
Go to a paint store and pick up a sample of paint that matches the Corbin, then either paint your existing seat or something else to get an idea of the look. In my mind, the colors might clash. If you choose this method, I suggest that you don't paint your existing saddle.
