The labels are marketing if you go to the parts counter and buy the kits.
They are kinda useful to know ballpark where a bike is at for stock
And they give a good outline of the progression.
Meaning don't bother with a cam if your bike is choking.
Well what did we do to identify progression BEFORE Harley Davidson came up with this nonsense? We used our heads to identify what was done and where we were at. Not trying to be a dick(but I am good at it) but the stage stuff is total and complete marketing bs to try and keep the customer inside HD's precious little box. I guess it's working.

My bikes never been to a harley shop while my names on the title.
I'm not disagreeing that's how it started. But it gives a good reference to those trying to figure out what to do when.
Just blowing it off as nonsense as opposing to helping someone who asked isn't helping anyone.

It is nonsense. Why does he have to mod his bike to fit into a stage definition? What if he doesn't? What does he call it then? A stage 1.5 or a 2.5? I know he asked what is a stage 1 etc, and there were differing answers, that is why it is nonsense. Some call a 1,2,3 etc by different definitions so who is right? It is not needed and the fact that someone has to ask does makes me still think that the stage designation is confusing and un-needed.
