Default Brake light not working on RK

I picked up an '01 FLHRCI and I'm working the bugs out of it. My current problem is the brake light not working at all. I swapped the bulb and bulb socket to known working ones from my Sporty and still nothing. The running light functions perfectly, as do the turn signals. I've tried front and rear levers and all the fuses. I also checked the wires running along the inside of the rear fender for issues. I know the switches break but I'm having trouble believing both are broken. Could it be the brake relay?

Take both connectors off the rear break switch with it ignition on take a wire and touch insert into the plugs if u r brake light comes on its up switch if not u r problem is elsewhere.

Did you try to jump out the brake light switches to see if the switches are bad. It should be easy to check the rear switch. You might also be able to swap out the brake relay with another relay to check the relay. Good luck.

I dont see how both switches can go bad at once, check your relay.

This is going to seem like a silly question, but where exactly is the rear brake switch? I'm still figuring my way around this bike.

I checked Auto Zone but they didn't have any relays to match mine, will try a couple of other parts places tomorrow. Anybody have equivalent part numbers that I might find there?

Well, I found and jumpered the rear switch and it still didn't work. It does make a clicking noise from somewhere in the vicinity of the relay. But it's late and cold outside, so I'll suspend any more testing until tomorrow.

Any chance you have done handlebar work? If so. Or even if not. Pull the right brake leveer. Inside is a black button. Check that. What might have happened is if your right side controls are loose it won't actuate the light.

If you hear a clicking sound it's not your relay.

Or you could have what happen to me I changed out my bars and the rear switch was shot changed it no brake light both handlebar or on the floor. What happened was the switch on the handlebar was not position correct and brake was on all the time. Make sure it's not already on turn ignition on and pull the fuse

multimeter (mm) is your friend with any electrical issue.
besides checking for current (using volt setting) you can check continuity (using ohms).
on the relay clicking means it is being triggered by current coming into it, but it may not be completing the circuit out to the light. again the mm will assist. I'd also recommend getting a wiring diagram.
