D-con rat poison (I have no small children or pets that may come in contact).
Once had squirrels build a nest in an ATV I had, and one time they chewed through a motorcycle seat....hence the D-con. Rats/Squirrels...all the same.
As an extra measure, I'd use the little black, plastic mouse traps.
We live in a sub with lots of vacant land surrounding us and field mice can be a problem in the colder months.
Once you have them, even with the popular poisons, it can take time to get rid of them, and in that time they can do a lot of damage.
We've had cars that have suffered a lot of wiring damage even before we knew that we had a mouse problem so it's advisable to keep the mouse poisons and traps in your garage all the time.
I'd also be careful of using a bike cover that creates a place of warmth for these little critters.
I've never had, or seen any sign of mice (damage or poop) on or near any of our bikes, but they seem to prefer the areas under the air cleaners, in behind the headlights, and once , on top of the fuel tank of my Avalanche.
I've never had problems with mice but those little bitty frogs get on the bike every year. Then first ride in the spring they pop their little eyes up while your on the highway.
I have a plug in ultrasonic mouse repelling device in both of my garages.
We live with bush all around and mice are a big problem, they get into anything that is left sitting. We used to use poison but found that the mice crawl away to die, if they crawl back into the walls to die the smell can be quiet unpleasant.
I haven't had any problems since putting the ultrasonics in. ( it seems to have the same effect on Spiders too! )
My old boss had mice that drove him nuts. So he got a bike cover that is more like a tent, pretty cool deal all enclosed, got it from J&P Cycles for a little over $100. He planned on putting baby food jars with peppermint oil in them in the tent, he can't stand the smell of moth ***** and didn't want his bike smelling that way.

There seems to be several brands of these, which ones are you using? My lower garage (by the woods) is always getting mice, these would work great down there.
