I have a 2011 ultra limited and I am going to install LEDs all the around the bike. I have been reading up on load equlaizers but I havr two questions that I am sure you all can answer. First question is what is the best load equalizer for the money? The second question is do I need them for more than just the turn signals on the front and rear?
When I say I am putting them all the way around I mean tour pack, tailight, headlight, auxillary lights, etc.
It depends on what you install whether you need a load equalizer. One of the advantages of the H-D LED lights is that no load equalizer is required. I believe the BAL ones do need one.
Load equalizers are only needed to make the turn signals work right. I've heard good things about Custom Dynamics. My Kuryakyn LED taillight came with the load equalizer needed for the turn signals. They call it the Panacea system.
Biketronics is very popular. I kept having issues with the security light using the biketronics one. I switched to the custom dynamics and it works perfectly.
I believe the load equalizer is required for anything that 'flashes'. LED's draw so little current the flashing mechanism doesn't work correctly. It starts flashing at an insanely fast rate. The load equalizer tricks the system to thinking it's got the equivalent draw of your 1157 bulb and all is right with the world.
My suggestion based on personal experience, and extensive conversations with a variety of forum members would be to buy the Biketronics load equalizer. I had Custom Dynamics on all four corners of my '12 SG, and used the Custom Dynamics version. I don't need one now with my '14 Ultra Limited, BUT, if we did need one, I would go for the Biketronics. No connection needed to the battery that is required by the Custom Dynamics version. Truly plug n' play. I don't know about any of the other models but for Biketronics & Custom Dynamics. While there are certain products I would never put on my bike (to remain nameless), you can't go wrong with either one of those.
I put a BAL and the Custom Dynamics Dynamic Ringz on my Limited and couldn't be happier. No equalizer was required however.

So I stand corrected. Guess they all have their issues. I had no problems with the Custom Dynamics. It just took a little more fiddlin' with to attach to the battery, route wires, and hide the module. But it worked perfectly on my '12 SG.

Yup, what he said. I too have the CD load equalizer and it works like a charm. Didn't need one with the LED headlight, running lights and BAL, until I changed the signals to LED.
I just installed the Badlands Illuminator. It combines a run/turn/brake module with a load equalizer. Just plug it in under the seat and find a find a place to mount it. Works with the security system, and it solid state so it will not overheat or burn out.
I got a kit from Custom Dynamics with the front and rear turns with a load equalizer included. Pretty good price, and I got to pick what style of LEDs I wanted. I'm real happy with the turn out, and their customer service rocks. Although, I'm not sure that I needed the equalizer, but I'd rather make sure they work and not have to worry about it.
