Just picked up a new Ultra yesterday and discovered an issue I had not foreseen. The antennas hit the garage door and are in a dangerous position to get caught by the door when it goes up or down.
How do most people deal with this issue? I seem to remember seeing antennas bent forward out of the way, but I never noticed how they had them attached. Any suggeations?
Back the scoot into the garage! Or...I cut a 2" piece of rubber tubing (fuel line works) sliced a slit down it, slip it over the tops of the antennas, bend them forward and stick them between the rier/passeneger seat in the slot for the back rest and that keeps them out of the way 9I do this if ai am on the road and need to put on a rain cover).
Yea, mine do the same thing when I pull in, it hasn't caused any problems thougth. In fact, they seem to bend more while driving at highway speads than they do pulling into the garage. If I pull in enough I can open and close the door without any problems, if I'm too close to the door, I just put the tips of mine into the spot were the backrest would go. I did the same thing when I put a cover on her while on a long trip too. They seemed to stay put, no problems.
I am replacing both of my "whips" with the 15" ones from Freedomcycle, I've had two CB ones snap off in less than 10 weeks, the dealer doesn't want to hear anything about warranty and I'm sick and tired of dealing with the idiot's where I bought the bike (I've changed dealers this and the antenna problem is a different thread). The new antenna's arrived this morning, but I haven't put them on yet. I'll post some pics with the new one's on later tonight!
eGlideGoodies only has an AM/FM antenna replacement. But check out Freedom Cycle Reno for a dual replacement kit. Go there and click on HARLEY DAVIDSON on the left, then ANTENNA KITS on the right. You are looking for the top one: AM/FM & CB Antenna Kit.
Quick update on the FreedomCycle antenna's. The look great, and perform better than the whips (at least for the FM, I haven't used the CD yet). But on the FM side, I'm able to get more stations, and the two or three that didn't come in all that well (stereo going in and out are crystal clear). I hadn't expected them to perform better than the original but they do!
What do the dikes look like? Can they wrench on a bike? OHHHHHHH you mean like side cutter pliers... I thought you meant ...uhhhhh......welll......women in sensible shoes......uhhhhhhhhhhh...Never mind
