Thanks for all the response, I was thinking about it just to save the motor from high rpm's but for a couple grand I don't think it's worth it. I guess going in a new direction with this thread what is the most safe / highest rpm in 5th gear?
I'm running a 107" motor with over 100/100 and stock 1990 US gearing. As for a stock motor it is safe to 5,500 rpm in the gears and I have run mine at 4,000rpm on German autobahns. Knocks fuel consumption for six, but the motor is fine! We delicate sensitive humans are far more concerned about our ruffty tuffty Harley motors that we need to be!

You're fine running a TC88 with 5 speed. I rode a '99 FLHT TC88 w/5-speed to and thru 48 U.S. states and 75,000 miles. It will run all day long at 75-80mph without an issue. Quit worrying about it and just ride, it will be fine.

I can't say what the highest safest RPM is. However, I made a solo road trip to my nephews wedding on my 06' 88 w/5 speed and maintained 90+mph for extended periods. I topped triple digits a couple of times. (28) mpg kinda sucked and I ran out of fuel twice. (I coasted into a station both times)
Haha right on guys, I'm not to worried about the roughy toughy engine I'm just worried about the dent in the pocket book. Since I have the efi I was thinking about a auto tuner what's your guys thoughts?
