Gutted CAT temperature difference...
Has anyone actually measured the temperature difference at the CAT area before and after removing it on the stock head pipe? I have a 2014 Ultra and not necessarily concerned with performance or sound increase, (yet). Thanks, AL
I can't provide specifics but it was enough to tell a significant difference . . . to me! Re-mapping with a power vision has now made it very bearable. (Not much different then my wing blowing the heat off the radiators.
I replaced the head pipe in my 2012 bike to get rid of the cat. I had a oil temp dipstick, and noticed only a small change in actual engine temp according to those readings. My wife did report a dramatic drop in exhaust temps that she had to deal with.
There was a thread a while back where folks were measuring exhaust temps. Don't recall it being very useful? I have a bad memory though??? It will do nothing for engine heat, only the Cat heat (1000F+) from the collector. I've never had a cat, but exhaust heat on some new bikes is crazy hot, but also seems hit and miss? My '09 EG burned my right calf, couldn't keep my foot on the footboard (fixed with Fullsac header and ceramic coated shields). My brothers '09 RK never had a heat problem. Buddy's '12 trike is crazy hot, other buddy just got a '14 Limited and it is cool?

I have. On an 80 degree day after a 20 mile ride, the temperature at the cat was recorded at 445 degrees. After replacing the pipe with an OEM cat-less header and doing no other mods, the temperature at the cat area measured 265 degrees. The sound changed slightly and not surprisingly, there was no change in performance
