Default gel or foam type seat

Just wanted to ask if anyone out there has been using and enjoying it, those gel type seats? Like corbin, saddleman, etc. are these gel type seat any better than the tradition foam type seats? thanks

I personally have not had any luck with gel seats, but maybe that's just me. I do know that if the gel does not have a layer of foam between it and your butt, they're will be a problem. The gel will freeze your *** off in the winter and burn you up in the heat of the sun when the seat is setting without any shaded. Memory foam does well for a while, but looses its memory after a couple years.

I don't think my Corbin has any gel in it. Cheap traditional foam seats can collapse and leave you sitting on the seat base, with no significant support. A well designed foam seat with graded foam or gel underneath it can give a much greater experience, as can a Corbin, if the shape fits (as it does for Mrs B and I).

All the major seat brands have their fans on HDF, as do a few custom brands who can rework your stock seat. Seats are really very personal things and it is easier to comment if you have a particular short list in mind.

My only experience with gel seats is that they're really comfortable but get and stay really hot if you leave your bike parked out in the sun for any length of time.I had a gel seat on my suzuki and had to carry around a white towel to put on it while it was parked at my work.Otherwise if I forgot the towel it was like riding a hot plate on the way home.Newer gel seats may have cured this problem I'm not sure because I'm pretty happy with the stock seat on my Limited.

I tried a gel pad once....Burned myself pretty badly. I tried a memory foam rebuild from MCC.....Didn't care for it as I "settled" through the memory foam after a couple of hours riding. Had a Corbin and loved it....Stiff as a damn board but all-day comfortable.

I would have a chat with the folks at www.meancitycycles.com If he does gel it will be insulated from hot and cold. Some models he will advise against gel. On my 09 ultra he did a double memory foam wrap. Plus he looked at my inseam and the way I sat on the bike. He then shaved out some foam for a more custom fit.

My two cents worth is that I would rather experiment first for less than 200 bucks first rather than several hundreds on a new seat. You might get lucky with a new one. However, everyone sits a bit different. Not saying you have to go with Mean City Cycles. It would be worth your time to at least check them out.

Regular foam on a C&C here. Great seats, even for those long days, but for those REALLY LONG DAYS can't help but wonder if memory foam or gel might help. Anyone that has either on a C&C chime in.

I prefer a very high grade of foam with a high level of firmness for good support. Really soft foam doesn't provide good support and you'll sit through it creating troubled spots. It feels nice and "cushy" for just a short while but not for long. Most people frown upon the really firm seats but they are made to provide good support for longer periods of time.
