03 RK with cruise..idle cable question..
I have the manual and have read thru it. I also have searched here and found nothing. I have a question...
The idle cable has a switch in-line near the front of the frame where it starts to run back to the throttle body. Does this cable have two pc housings? One in front of this switch and one behind it that can move independantly and separate easy? or is that junction at the switch a fixed point? I cannot get my throttle cables both connected on both ends. I am convinced I have enough cable length (stock) to work with my WO 10" chubby bars I put on but I have run into this issue...
When I first mounted the bars, the cables did not seem to wanna reach. I pulled forward on them to get as much slack as I could get. I ended up feeding them back out from the bars and out of the headlight bucket and re routing them inside there to give the shortest path to the bars. With my adjustments to full slack I popped the cables back into the switch housing but the cables did not come out far enough to attach to the throttle grip. After struggling I pulled the air cleaner off to check the connections at the throttle wheel. I pulled the idle cable off at that point and rocked the throttle wheel to fully open the throttle. This gave me enough slack to attach the throttle cable at the grip. With idle cable free at throttle body I was able to pull slack at the grip and connect it to the grip. So I have both throttle/idle cables attached to grip correctly and switch housing back together. Down at throttle body I cannot get the idle cable back connected. When I traced up I found the idle cable at the switch had the housings separated. I could see the actual internal cable exposed. The rear housing will move and I tried to push it forward against the switch as far as I could but still cannot connect the cable. So I am thinking maybe my idle cable is bad or popped apart at that point...
anybody got any ideas??
thanks

The idle cable housing is two separate pieces with the roll-off switch in between. It sounds like you dont have enough length in the cable itself.
When I installed 13" Prime Apes on my '05 Electraglide Classic I had to install longer cables. The stock length was just too short.
