What changes and/or modifications will I need to make in order to change my front wheel from 16" to 21"? Stock rear wheel is 16" and last year I replaced the fork internals with Progressive MonoTubes. I'd like to keep the stock fender. What is the maximum safe size rear tire width I can go with, stock is a 90 if memory serves me correct.
I have a 21x3.5 in front, fits under the stock fender perfectly, my rear is an 18x5.5. Front tire is 120/80-21 rear is 180/50R-18..... Plenty of clearance and width on the rear.
Also want to add..... The front now tracks like its on rails! A little sluggish in tight turns, but feels very confident on the road...... One of the better handling investments I've made..... Not to mention it looks sick as F@$K!
Need to check front fender clearance. Most need to slot rear mounting holes to raise it up. I did.
Absolutely....... I couldn't find what model/year your bike was. I've seen kits that have a pair of tabs to raise the fender. I'm assuming since you have a 16" front, you may have to do just that. I'm sure it wouldn't be too much, and easy to install.
I believe you have to oval out the rear minuting holes of the fender and raise the rear of the fender up so it doesn't rub.... Love the look of a 21 up front although seems like 21's are a thing of the past as most are going much bigger....
I was thinking of putting a 21" front wheel on my '13 SG. Don't you have to change the brake disc and caliper? The bikes that I have seen like this also only have one disk on the front instead of two. Aren't there a lot of changes when changing the wheel?

Like other have said the only thing needed may be to make the holes bigger on the tabs in order to raise the fender up slightly. Now thats it as far as changing the wheel out. But it is also the time to consider if you want to to the lowers and maybe a flush axle? If you want to do those as well now is the time to do it

No, but most wheels have a matching disc that can be purchased.
