Yup... you sure are right. I would say about 90% of cops think someone made them god and we all have to bow to them. You only get the respect you earn. Its just a job, and a pretty low paying and low education one at that!!! I also like that they have to put a harley police badge on their avatar just so we all they are cops... WERE NOT WORTHY

Now that was uncalled for. I have my own gripes with police as much as anybody, well ... maybe not everybody ... never really been in trouble ... but that's not my point. These are the poor smoes that chase the bad guys. You know that complete idiot drug thug that just broke into your house and took off running with yourbrand new disc player... would you jump out of your car and run after him knowing full well he may have a gun and won't even hesitate to snuff you out given the chance. Well, chances are that so called cop that should 'earn your respect' is going to do it without even hesitating...cause that is just what he does. His job!
Would you risk your safety to chase down a car thief? I think not. They do it all the time. Would you risk getting a poke in the face by a 6'2" 250 lb thug while arresting him (catching him red-handed), just to see him let go once he has made it to court because he's a minor or he got off on some rediculous technicallity? I think not ... again.... and the list goes on ... day after day after day....
Although, we have heard about or have experienced bad experiences with the law, we still have to give credit where credit is due. Not all cops are bad cops. Not all get up everyday to cause problems for the regular people in society. Lets not paint them all with one brush. I am the first to complain about that ... and this is no different.
I am working a DUI checkpoint Saturday night with 2 other agencies. This time we took no bikers to jail for dui. But the funny thing is this one a$$hole comes through… YOU KNOW THE TYPE… he has the Harley addition Ford pickup with Harley stickers all over it, he steps out in Harley boots, the Harley shirt, and a non faded leather vest with tones of Harley patches.. it goes on and on with the Harley stuff. And wouldn’t you know he was the biggest *#$)@# of all the whole night. But when I go and ask him what he rides he couldn’t come up with an answer..
To just make my night I had to tow his prideNjoy Harley (PU), that might have been driven home by the big mouth fat lady in the front seat. Except she had to start mouthing off. Thank good for the little law known as public intox. and I get to take all 3 away
When has it become against the law to give someone the finger?
It's not. It's just felony stupid when you give it to the cop who has you on a righteous stop. He can let you go, give you a warning, or write a citation. In this case, the finger made the decision easy.
It not always the driver that gets the driver in trouble! Yes lippy passengers will get the driver in trouble if I can’t tag the passenger for anything…..
Had a car load of 20 something’s, the driver sitting in my car as I was half way through a warning citation when I noticed one sitting in back seat giving me the finger….had a little talk with him and returned to my car and tore the warning up and had the driver sign 3 citations that he was getting the warning for. He was a little confused and I just pointed to his buddy still flipping me of and said be sure to let your buddy know he is the one that cost you the $$$ in place of the warning you would of gotten because of his actions…. This driver was pissed and cussing at the guy on his way back to the car as I pulled away…
The moral of the story control your passengers’ too.
Seems to me that it would be a little difficult for the driver to control the actions of his passenger while HE WAS SITTING IN YOUR CAR GETTING A WARNING CITATION. That's the kind of BS that gives good cops a bad reputation.
Exactly..The little weenie syndrome strikes again, cops have such little weenies that they have to pick on a guy who did nothing more than sit there waiting to get his ticket and the guy who flipped him got nothing because in reality the cop can't do anything about it. Its unreal how large some cops egos really are. If you are truly a man you could have just been the bigger man and went on your way!!!!!
Nightride = first off, thank you for your service - I have been a Firefighter for 34 years and I have been stopped a few times driving faster than I should have one on the bike.... Each time in the car. I pull over keep my hands on the wheel - if it is night time, I always turn on the interior light and have the window down as the officer walks up... I NEVER start an attitude - whats the use... One the bike, again, just pull over and keep my hands ON the bars and wait for Their instruction... So far I have been lucky and just been ask to slow down... I would rather run into burning buildings than have to deal with some of the butt heads I have seen on the street... again, thanks for your service..
I did enjoy your first post, I guess I should have read more into it, or left my common sense at home.
I love it when people that have problems with authority, word smith something so as to make it like it's your fault cause they don't respect something. Bet you didn't know you had to earn respect to do your job, good thing you tuned into this thread.
Here is some free Psyc 101, if your husband/wife is busted for DUI and you are the passenger, large or small, black or white, you shall not be looked at as being very smart letting a drunk drive you around, better to keep your mouth shut than open it and remove all doubt.
Probably not good to ride around tonight in their jurisdiction witha HDForums.com sticker in your window.
Cops have a tough job...my dad was one for many years. I have a great deal of respect for them all. Some have egos and some do not. Notwithstanding, we should appreciate them for protecting us and putting their lives on the line for us.
Wow, Nightglide, you have certainly brought out some emotion! I think we have all had some questionable experiences with law enforcement officials. To paint all with one brush is to do a disservice to them as well as folks in our own professions. Wehave all heard the damning generalities that condemn one profession after another. I have had my own run-ins with LEO's with low professionalism, but the flip side is some of my best riding buddies were LEO's of the highest caliber. At the end of the day, we are all human. There is only so much crap one can take and that can vary from day to day. Example, my wife is dying from cancer and I have to listen to some shmuck tell me what a POS I am for giving him a ticket when he was 20+ over-or some punk is giving me the finger from the back seat. I have to agree with the response. Your buddy just cost you a bundle! Frankly, if my buddies' juvenile behavoir just cost me, I'd be kicking his *** and not riding with him again. Same with the loud-mouthed passenger....
