Default %&$$### pinging

Well i have been to 3 different tuners, two with the Power commander tuning link, and all say they cant tune the ping out. I have an 07 Ultra and did the rush pipes, k&n 3909 kit and pcIII from fuel moto because of the pinging. I have thrown so much fuel on it, retarded the timeing to -6 and no good. I have a burning oil smell, cant get into 5th or 6th gear, it sounds like it is going to blow. So i took everything off and returned it to stock. The same thing. Today it is going back to the dealer and i know i am going to hear the same old run around....they all sound like that. Heck i tried to blow it up yesterday riding but my conscience wouldnt let me, let alone thinnking about being stuck in the middle of BFE Arizona.......i have my fingers crossed that mabey its a cracked head or intake or something...and i can get back to riding like i should be able to on a bagger.

Sorry to hear of your problems. Personnaly I wouldn't put a Power Comander on my trash can. I hope you did not get it so lean that you burned a hole in your piston. After you get the problem diagnosed you might want to put the K&N and Rush back on and this time use a SERT and if the dealer is qualified have them do it.

Many folks go with the PC because it's so simple to tune. Seems to be OK for most. Just not my idea of the right way to go. Again, that's me so stick with it if you like it.

Best wishes, seriously I do hope it's a warranty problem and you get it squared away.

Sure youre hearing ping and not just the standard valve train noise all twin cams have? Has the 903 download been done? You might do better with the tmax self tuner.

With the other problems beyond pinging, I would bet you may have other problem revolving around the motor other than the pcIII. especially if your smelling oil. Have you pulled your plugs and looked at them? If your smelling oil, you could be fouling plugs.

Just my .02
But did you have 903 bulletin done?
I would do that with the bike in pure stock condition (it's free from HD for most 07's).
Then go try it.
It supposedly remaps the torque curve (fuel /air timing) to run cooler and reduce the ping.

Then personally I would have a dealer do the SERT (screaming eagle race tuner).
There is no interfacing hardware left on the bike. This directly remaps the ECM.
06 Epa mandated stricter emissions. these air cooled can only go so far before problems
develop. 2010 is another BIG one coming out.
A good tuner should be able to tune it right with any air cleaner and exhaust system.
Cost is somewhere in the $600 range including about 2 hours dyno time (check your dealer)
Bad thing it is VIN specific, so you can't move it to another bike.

I have no comparative experience with a Power Commander but fully agree with choochoo about the Screaming Eagle Race Tuner. Whilea Dyno-tune is almost certain to be the best, you can also do a great deal of adjustmentsusing theSERT and a lap top computer - once you get pastfeeling overwhelmed. Encouraging commentson this forumand an interested friend helped me get started. The resultshave beenamazing!

Besides the sert I would go to the K&N 3910. I tried the 3909 and the tuner said just not enough air flow, switched to K&N HD-0800 and BAM tuned up real nice.

Ride like you stole it and let it blow if it is going to.
If it dont blow, keep riding it.
