Default Detachable locks

I just bought a set of detachable locks for the detachable 2up tour pak kit I have on order. I got the chrome ones, thinking I'd replace both sides of the standard black ones with chrome.

Reading the directions that came with the lock set, it states that you are to use only one lock on one side only, the second one is for another accessory.

So now it looks like I now have to buy a set of the Rotary Detachable Chrome Latch Kit-12600036 and use one just to get all chrome on both sides.

Is this correct? That I can't put the pair of the locks on both sides of one accessory?

This really isn't stated very clearly in the PA catalog and I don't have the detach kit yet to scope it out.

I should have just bought the black locks I guess.

Yes, you are understanding that correctly.
They give you two locks in each package, so you can install on two different devices.

You can't put them on both sides of any one device, as only one side will fit properly.
Depending on the device (tour pack, back rest) will determine how the locks are installed.
The instructions will list how the lock is installed on each device (inside or outside).

Thanks, I wish that was made more clear before purchase. Oh well, another $50.00 to buy two chrome non-locking latches that I only need one of...

OTW: Does the detachable kit come with latches already? I'm about to buy the kit (and install it myself, thanks to your advice) and saw this post. Does the kit come with any kind of lock or latch or did you buy the extra ones because they are chrome?

ETA: Nevermind. I just took a look at the picture of the kit and see that it does come with black ones. Are they lockable?

The stock ones are not lockable.

You can buy the HD black lockable kit and install on one side, or buy the chrome lockable kit and a a matching chrome non-lockable kit so both sides will match.

A non-HD solution is the brukus tour pack locks.
They just install on the stock rotary latches.

Wow, there's so many expenses that add up with this kit. The kit up here (Canada) is $620. Plus the CB relocation ($69), plus the hidden antenna ($69, if I decide to get this). Not to mention the fact that I want smoked lenses and I have to order them separately as it isn't a choice with the kit ($250).

That adds up to about $1010 according to my math. Ouch. I guess I can sell the red lights after and try to recoup $100 or two.

Do any of you have any tips about this install? It looks pretty straight forward looking at the instructions, but you never know.

Also, I cannot find the installation instructions for the saddlebag lights. Does anyone have this or tell me if they are just plug and play?

Yea, wish I had asked these questions before I bought. LOL.

I thought, hey $10 bucks more for the chrome locks and I can have chrome on both sides! Wrong.

So now I've got to buy the chrome regular latches. WTF do I do with the left over lock and latch? Stupid that they sell these things in pairs when you only need one, I feel like I'm in Home Depot but these aren't $1.59 screws.

They sell them in pairs because most people have more than one device.

I have a detachable tour pack, and when it isn't in use I have the standard backrest on.
So, that one lock kit worked for both pieces of equipment.

You don't need a lock on each side of each device.

Yea but I ssume the the chrome non-latching pair I've got to buy now only works on a particular side . So now when I get a detachable sissy bar, I'll have a chrome lock and a chrome latch that won't fit on the opposite side and have to buy another pair. No?

No, you will be fine there.
The "lockable" latches fit on different sides (depending on device).

Right now you have a set of chrome locking latches.
If you buy a set of chrome non-locking rotary latches, you will have a enough hardware to complete your tour pack and a backrest both in chrome.
