seeking ideas on performance boost
so I'm picking up my first Harley soon, as soon as the weather gets better here in Chicago
Anyhow, the bike I bought (2012 Street Glide in Denim Black) already has a set of 4" Rineharts True duals, PM Air Cleaner, and Thundermax, so I think I'm ok for starters.
But, of course, the brain is already trying to see what else I need to budget for
What should be my next steps as far as boosting performance of my ride (outside of Stage 4 or 110")? is it:
- Cams? (if yes - what would be a recommended ones)?
- something else?
As always, thanks in advance for all of the suggestions...

"casual cruising, with probably a 50/50 split between solo and a 2-up"
Is that enough for a cam recommendation?

Perhaps you should OWN the bike and see what type of performance it gives you now.
12HDRK is telling you the truth when it comes to a never ending cycle of never being happy.
Harleys were built to go down the road at a good speed right out of the factory.
I will say a cam opens up a whole new can of worms and tearing into a working motor could leave you with more troubles and unforeseeable costs than you're ready to handle.
Now if your a 20 something, just moving up from a crotch rocket, and you have unlimited money and don't mind the bike always being a work in progress, then go for it, big time.
A cam, a tuner, then a bore job with oversize pistons, then a whole new set of heads, next is over sized cylinders to up the displacement, don't forget the new performance carb and the turbo.
You also need to start buying chrome pieces right away too.
Bottom line ... ride and then give it some more thought. You may be happy with what you bought and not need to turn it into a street racer.
Remember too ...Down time during riding season should be avoided at all costs.
Best wishes with your new ride.
