Default Going with Sert

After way to much reading and researching I decidedthe sertwould be the best option long term. I was quoted $459.00 for the sert, 37.50 installed with map and will dyno at a later time. This is from Shumate HD in Spokane, WA. I am going to try totake Friday off and get it done but my job hassent me 2 1/2 hours away from home this week so I will see how it goes.

I have installed my slipon's (Wildpig 1 3/4 baffle's) and two different dealers assured me that I could install my K&N 3909 and ride the 110 miles to get the sert installed without hurting anything. Is this true or should I wait to install a/c?

IMHO..I would wait on the A/F until you get there, it's going to really lean out the engine, run hotter.

Thats what I kind of thought, but one dealer said it would give the tech a starting point by checking the plugs to see how the mods were affecting the bike.

I would worry about melting the plugs. Lean as heck already.
My dealer told me to change the pipes and wait until I got the bike to shop to have the A/F changed.
I bought my own SERT, going to give it a try myself with the help of this forum. Lots of great info and people here!!!

THREW my SERT in the trash!!! Bought Zippers thundermax!!! Super product. Problem with SERTs is that only HD dealers will work with them and the majority of them don't have a clue as to what they are doing!!! Avoid dealerships except when you have to buy the bike!!

its easy to do it yourself....IMO, i wouldnt have the dealership do it...buy the SERT and load one of the canned maps yourself...takes about a minute...if you want to experiment with several, thats easy too..most of the different configs have canned maps for you already in the software ...try this one first...the 1550/slip ons/stock piston, comp ratio/injectors you have/SE AC...there's several of those...the dyna maps work great in our baggers as well

i am having Rinehart slip on's, sert, a/c upgrade. and dyno run done today by my dealer for $1400. I had the same work done last year on my FXDI 35 except I put on Rinehart's 2-1 system. So far I have been satisfied with the work my dealer has done. I really don't know if the bikes are tuned as good as possible but the first bike they did seems to run good.
The reason I had my dealer do this work is because I haven't been able to find anyone in my ares that does this kind of work. I do mechanical work on my old bikes but I am not very good at higher tech computer kind of stuff. Posting threads is just about my limit.
I don't totally trust my dealer but right now that seems to be my only choice. The costis a little high but if the bike runs good I will eventually forget what it cost. I work a lot of hours and I really don't need anymore stress in my life worrying about screwing up my $20000 toy.

I went and talked to my local dealer/mechanic,he has done warranty work before on mine. I bought a sert off of e bay and he said a dino was about $90 for 1 1/2 hrs. And honestly, that is the only way to get the bike set to the way it wants to be set. After reading and listening to a lot of people talk about sert,s ,I,ve come to the conclusion that those who have problems with them, really don,t have a clue on how to set them up. IMO they are like any thing else, the more you know about them the better they will preform. LOL

A silly question about the sert. How do you know what version I have. all the info says is
"Version 4.5.3
2001 -2006 Vehicles
January 24, 2006"
I don't remember what version I bought because the first one was bad so they waited for a new one to come out. So I have no idea witch one I have. Is there that big of a difference?
I am having my bike dynoed this Thursday after the 95" kit install. SO he should be changing allot of the settings any way. So would it make any since to get the latest cd out there?
If I understand the program right it is loaded with factory settings for the different configurations IE. "different pipes, air cleaner, and so on." So if you get the bike tuned and the mechanic changes the settings then there is no need for the factory preset settings. IS this right?? Or am I missing some thing?
Thanks
Just trying to figure this thing out.

it is impossible to do a custom map on a SERT in 1 1/2 hours...i do understand the time factor tho...our hobby of motorcyclinis supposed to be a pleasure, not another aggravation
