Ive found a big improvement just changing pads to Lyndall and a floating rotor.IMO these bikes are 800 lb tourers and will never stop like a sport bike, the improvement with ABS, a good set of pads and a floating rotor to minimize fade stops my RG much faster and safer than any HD Ive owned before and the cost was only a couple hundred dollars. But if you have the $ you could go with a 6 piston caliber too. One of the guys at my HOG chapter has the PM set up and it looks great and he says stops great
Newer bagger calipers with 11.8" rotors. LRB pads. I like the ***** Shiny chrome version as they grind off the Harley logo and chrome the screen and caliper body.
I thought the 08 and up used DOT 5 brake fluid and not DOT 4 as on the 07 SG?
If that's the case how would the 07 SG front master cylinder accept the DOT 5 with swapping out?
There are various things we can do to improve brake performance, from replacing the stock hoses with steel braided lines, using aftermarket pads, changing rotors and pads, changing calipers. Lyndell make pads as well as rotors, although the Harley floating rotors work well.
I have 13" floating rotors and 6-piston calipers up front, which some may think a bit over the top, but I find they work fine!
I have installed PM calipers that XARAN has linked you to in his response.
One of the calipers I installed started to "chrome peel" after 3 months of time and a couple of very challenging rides.
The peeling chrome got into the pistons and ruined the front rotor.
Investigation revealed that about 50% of PM's front rotors fail due to poor chrome plating.
Mine was replaced by PM under warranty.
Something to consider.
As far as braking goes; there are none better.
