I recently bought a '07 ultra. I was wondering if anyone knew about a headset that will work on the intercom system for 1/2 helmets. The Harly one is designed for 3/4 or full face and we wear 1/2 helmets in the summer due to hot temperatures in northern Calif. Thanks for any input.
So far, three of our Road Captains in the Chapter simply installed the headset from their 3/4 helmets onto their half helmets. Used Velcro to attach the speakers and the mic is long enuf to sit in front of your mouth ...
I use the OEM Headset with a half helmet. I added some ear pieces from Super Seer (http://www.superseer.com) to hold the ear pieces and the left ear piece has a mounting point for the mike. There are two styles, one is for Harley specifically.
Prior to this I mounted the mike to the left side of the half helmet and velcroed the ear pieces to the inside top of my helmet and used the speakers on the bike to hear everything (couldn't hear the Intercom this way).
I have been thinking about getting half helmets for me and my wife and was thinking about the same thing then it occures to me that with the half helmet my wife can lean forward and talk to me and I can answer back with out having to scream. So now I will get the helmets and try it before I consider putting headset in them.
Thanks for the input. Yes we can talk back and forth with the half helmets without the headsets. With the headset she can control stereo volumne seperately from the speakers. Also if traveling with others the c.b. can not be used without the headsets. I may go the route of velcro the speakers to the straps and see what happens.
if your half helmet has a removable neck curtain, there should be a pocket on each side for the headset speakers. also you can tuck the speaker cords into the lining between the neck curtain for a real clean look.
However, while I say "worth anything," it is mostly from the warranty perspective that I speak. I have had several sets of the 1/2 helmet headsets -- and they invariably go bad within the 2-year warranty period. Not sure why -- I'm not hard on equipment. But I seem to have a good relationship with Sierra now due to my calls to replace the sets on a regular basis. But in my opinion, it is worth it to ride with 1/2 helmet.....
In the event you find another source, I would be glad to receive a PM with that information. Until then, I'll keep dealing with Sierra.
