Default Score!!!

I have the mod-bug ( who doesn't? ) and I couldn't stand having my scoot stock for very much longer....

An HD brother just upgraded his tuner and exhaust and had the FL-VIED-10 off his 2013 SG and he just GAVE it to me! What a friend!!!

Then he texts me about some Rhineharts on Craigslist... so I call the guy and meet up with him...they are off an older HD.. 2000-2001 Road Glide I believe.

When I get there... they are covered in burnt oil... some scuffs and the finish looked like he tried cleaning them with scotch-brite pads... couldn't even see a reflection in a lot of places. Sigh...

Being resourceful as I am... I see potential with knowing a few things about reviving damaged chrome... I offer him a price and I take them home.

I spent about an hour cleaning and buffing them.. then come to find out that the ID is 2" and the head pipes on my 14 SGS are 1.75". So... I get some 2" OD tubing with an ID of 1.75" and split it to make a shim to slip into the end of the Rhineharts and over my head pipe....

they came out pretty good and sound really good...for now...

OH... wait.... I didn't tell you how much...

$40!!!

That is my score!

Great job!

Have you got some before pics of the pipes? How did you get the shine back (what products, tools, etc.)?

Thanks guys! I love it when stars align... makes you feel great when you get a great deal!

Yes... they are much louder than stock and I can actually say it doesn't sound like a Honda now... LOL!!!

Actually... sorry... I didn't get before pics... should have though... they looked pretty bad. they are not perfect by a long shot, but most of the blemishes are unseen due to bags.. plus the bottoms are never seen.

From a 'looking at the bike' standpoint... you can't tell there are blemishes unless you get right up on them. (as illustrated in the pics )

My trick is a a 4.5" surface prep pad (3/8" thick ) I use to back a doubled up and trimmed micro fiber towel attached to it... I use staples to attach it to the pad ( they hold very well and the pad acts like Velcro to the micro fiber ). I use Mother's Mag and aluminum polish on a 4.5" angle grinder with just enough pressure to work the scuffs and scratches, but not too much to overheat the chrome or the micro fiber... there is a fine line there.... takes a bit to get that perfect pressure. You can't get it all out at once either... SEVERAL passes with fresh polish and fiber did the trick.

The surface prep discs are too course by themselves... they will scratch the chrome.... giving you more work to do. Primarily they are used on raw metal like stainless steel. If you burn through the fiber... you will know instantly.

I'll get some pics of the grinder set up....

EDIT: Here are the pics of the surface prep disc and fiber.. I pulled back some fiber to show the pad and how thick it is...
