This has been challenging. Installed new cam,, etc after tearing most of the bike apart for new bars body parts etc. we went to start the bike for the first time in three months. We're getting a lot of backfiring. We have confirmed spark and fuel flow, compression and the timing marks are dead on. Fuel pump activates. Plugged a diagnostic tool in and have received error codes P1351 and P 1354 which when looked up refers to ignition coil open/low. Can I get someone to translate this for me?
It might be as simple as a poor power connection to the coil. Could also be a faulty coil. Even a weak battery might be at fault. Did you put the plug wires on the correct cylinders?
Yeah we actually pulled covers off and confirmed the timing marks being aligned. We are absolutely sure it is not a timing problem.
Little more info do you have adjustable push rods. are they possibly two tight. take a compression test to see if both cylinders are close. is the marks lined up on the inner cams. these are some quick checks
In the past I found that one of the more annoying things that you run into on this form is when somebody has a problem and then they never actually write in with the solution. It is with his train of thought that come to you with an admission. We had the plug wires backwards. Sounds simple doesn't it ? We spent about three hours diagnosing and trying to figure out what the problem was because initially we had a pin bent on a connector that dealt with the fuel pump. After solving that problem we ran into this problem. It seems now that all problems are solved. Lesson learned. If you ever take the engine apart make sure your plug wires are on the correct plugs...

Glad it worked out for you and thanks for coming back with the reason.
