Also like to run gear oil in the tranny. I got a "free" 1st service with my bike and so I experimented and had them do Syn3 in all 3 holes. No noticeable difference in the tranny from what came in the bike at delivery, but it was terrible in the primary - switched that out pronto, and have been very pleased with the Redline product I swapped in there. I only noticed a 'minor' reduction in shift thunk when I swapped the Syn3 for Royal Purple Syn gear oil. I keep hearing that the Redline with Shockproof can make a noticeable difference in the shift 'thunk' but have yet to try it. On my Evo, I always used Mobil1 gear oil and it was fine.

I have always used synthetic gear oil in my tranny. Hey it is full of "gears" so gear oil just seemed to be the right thing to use.

I use and recommend Amsoil Severe Gear 75w110.

Seems to shift smoother, in my experience and YMMV.

I run Royal Purple 75-90 or 75-140 with no metal on the plug. I also use Royal Purple in my Volvo penta outdrive on the boat. I saw a noticeable different when I switched oil on the boat, there is a small portion that is out of the water when running and it gets hot and cooks the water. With the RP it cooled it down significantly.

I know these are apples and oranges but same oil.

Anybody got a reference about that?

Per Bel-Ray's website their Gear Saver 80 wt is equal to 10w40 motor oil
" 85 wt equal to 20w50 "

I switched mine to Bel-Ray Hypoid 85/140 at the first service and noticed immediately that the 1st gear whine is quiter and the trans shifts smoother.

I've been using either M1 or Lucas synth 75-90 or 75-140. It stays real clean in there even after 6k miles. I'm getting ready to do a change and found m1 75-90 at Amazon for 11.79 and bought enough for both bikes. Been using gear oil in the trans for most of it's life.

I'm running Red Line in all 3 holes. I'm happy with the results. Shifts quality is better and clutch engagement is smoother.

most indy's and even the dealers here in the St.Louis area recommend red line heavy shockproof, the dealers even stock it.
