Every time I put something in a "safe place" I end up putting it in a place that's so safe even I can't find it.

If you put them in a safe place, open the safe. They're probably still there...

the problem is not forgetting where you put keys, its if you look at them and don't know what they are for!!
very sorry for the condition of your dad and your relationship. its got to hurt.
