I've always rode solo or with a few friends. Never much of a joiner and group rides always bored and scared me at the same time. Always thought "Harley Old Guys" was pretty lame. But now I'm old, sick and most my riding buddies don't anymore. Joined local HOG a couple years ago to do a few rides. I don't get involved in the politics, just go on rides I feel like and attend most monthly meetings. It does get me out and met new folks. The ride after the ride is still the most fun.
I would strongly advise anyone to NOT get involved in the 1%er motorcycle "clubs". Those are not really riding clubs per se, they tend to be involved in other things which many times are illegal. I'm sure there will be some here who vociferously deny that but if they were upstanding clubs they wouldn't have probate periods and be so choosy about who can join and specifically prohibit anyone in law enforcement.
I wanted some people to ride with and have fun with while also doing some good so I joined ABATE. I knew most of the people already in my chapter and we have some great rides and get things done in the legislature in regards to motorcycle laws. $25 a year and a lot of good people.
MC and 1% is a huge difference, he never said anything about 1%. i am part of MC and have bbe nfor while, best thing ive done. i agree its not for everyone and i work 50-80 hours a weeks and i still have time to uphold my part to the club. if you are intersted talk to some of your local club and hang out with them and see what you think and what they think of you. might not be happy with it or might take cpl diff clubs before you find one you like.
send me a private msg of where you are located and ther might be a local chapter in your area of my club and you could go meet them and see what you think of them
I thought about joining a local MC after I got back from Iraq. But I decided that it wasn't for me. I still don't think that I'm ready to join a club. To each his own...
MC, RC OR RA, there is something out there that fits your need but you just have to find it. some people dont mind getting that call at 2 in the morning and being told they have to ride a couple of hundred miles with a patched brother and not being able to sit down when they are hangin with the club until they get all three pieces. Some like to belong to something where they just show up at a place and ride with a group And some like a common interest or goal the whole group shares. just have to look and ask.
I guess all the undercover audio and video was just staged for those shows too. LOL.
By no means am I saying they haven't been caught red handed on a few issues nor am I defending their actions. But you know as well as I media will dramatize it more than what it actually is. No different than watching the news on any given day.
Well, I wish my local HOG group was a tenth of what some of you've described. Mine is "Seizure's Palace" and they're more concerned with where they're going to eat than with riding. They all trailer their bikes to the two big rides they do a year. I refuse to stand around with them all looking like a bingo bus collided with a Hot Leathers delivery truck!!!
(and before anybody get's their panties in a bunch thinking I'm knocking old riders, I'm one too! I just want to ride to feel young, not stand around complaining about my last doctor's visit!!!)
Everybody talked about the MC, RC, and the RA, but nobody mentioned the MM, of which I belong to one of those, and enjoy it very much. 1 Peter 2:17 - Honor all men, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the King.
