Default basic radio

Looking to replace my trashed radio. Bike is a 99 bagger. I just need a basic am/fm/disc with decent manual controls. Maybe a little extra power wouldn't hurt! Can I pick one up at my local retail store?

You will want to find a marine grade head unit to withstand the elements. and yes, you probably can find a great system at a local vendor.

Just about any single DIN radio will work. You will need an install kit and an interface module if you want to retain handlebar controls. Marine grade isn't a necessity. Many companies make rain shields. Look at Biketronics, Hawg Wired, V-twin Audio or Scosche for ideas and cost.

Don't need handle bar controls. They don't work and I really don't need them.
Just looking for an easy install with ample power.

What do you mean, "ample power"?

You will also need to replace the stock 8ohm speakers. Infinity/JBL have some decent 2ohm 5.25" on the cheap that would be ok with a "40 watt" cheapy head unit. I do hate these "hack" jobs though.

I've thought about doing the same with mine but I've come to the conclusion that I'd end up spending more changing out the head unit than sending mine to Iron Cross to get fixed. I've never had a radio on a bike and don't really miss it but I do want it to work

FYI, when you buy the head unit, make sure that it has a USB port!

I've got a 4GB thumb drive, has 27 albums of MY music loaded on it, plus back-up maps for my bike, Momma's bike and two older maps that would work in a pinch. Still 40% empty! Took a 4 day trip to Red River NM last summer, playlist started back over about 40 miles from home.

USB ports are almost a standard anymore, well worth it if you know what you like. Still have AM/FM, CD and an Aux. port, just kinda wish I had Weather Band also.

Running the stock offering from BikeTronics w/280w speakers, not marine grade, probably a good option. Ever since that trip to RR NM, LOTS OF RAIN, some of the control buttons have done crazy stuff, I pulled the faceplate, cleaned the contacts, now she's working like a new unit!

My $0.02 worth!

Love my Cop-Glide, Biketronics stereo

Thanks for the info. It already had a after market radio in it, so I think all I need
is the radio. As far as power I'm not sure. It has the stock speakers in it now. In town
there alright and on the highway not so much!

I guess what I'm asking is what can I buy at my local wallyworld,bestbuy,etc.. that has worked for you. It doesn't have to have all the bells and whistles just power my speakers at lest as good as stock. But a little upgrade would be nice.
