Default . "WHAT"

OK I call my Harley dealer and ask about the 1000 service. Said it would be $325.00 with synthetic oil. Im like WHAT !!!!! What the hell do you do ? Here's what i got. Oil the cable lines.( Did they get unoiled that fast ?). check the clutch and clutch basket & adjust. Check the bolts. Check the belt. Take it for a ride. Then the man says it takes a GOOD THREE HOURS TO DO THAT ?
OK math time. three hrs at $75.00 pr hr = $225.00 . Syn oil = $26.00 . Now add that up. $251.00 . So whats up with the other $74.00 ????????. WHATS UP WITH TAKING THREE HRS ?????
Next thing you know Harley will be selling bullshit with Harley stamped on it for $325.00 cause thats what this is.
BULLSHIT !

[sm=dontgetit.gif][sm=WTFsgign.gif]My first service is free, just have to pay the difference on the synthetic oil vs regular about $20 bucks......after that will service bike myself. Since they wont put in amsoil for me they can put in syn 3 on the first one and after that I will use amsoil

When you buy a Harley, expect to get gouged on everything!

[sm=laughingsmilie.gif]$74 on $251... Harley Tax must've jumped to 29% this year! Haha...

Incidentally, that's not far off from what I was told on mine, including the same "three hours" part...

This is how long it took me to do it, and I took my sweet time:

Oil cable lines: 30 min. max (the way I do it)

Check clutch (top and bottom): 10 min. (derby cover is off to change primary fluid anyway)

Check "critical fasteners": Some locations are hard to fit a torque wrench, and I doubt if they do any more than I did, which is to check that they aren't loose. 15 min. max.

Change fluids: 30 min. max (Buy oil somewhere else: $5/qt. for a good synthetic like M1 15w50, $7 for 1 qt. synthetic gear oil for the tranny, $1-2/qt. for a cheap fossil oil or ATF-F for the primary)

DYI. In their estimate, you forgot about the three donut and coffee breaks required for the job. Yes, you pay for that.

For warranty purposes, log everything you do, make sure all items on the first-service list are covered, and keep all receipts. You are not required to have them do the first or any other scheduled service, nor must you use their products!

$350 for my first service at the stealer. I opted out of that one and took it to my local HD custom guy and he did it plus a ton of other things I wanted changed and donefor 200 with Syn fluids. I then went out and bought the FIX Thy Hog dvd for the add ons and the maintenance and will do it myself in the future. My problem is I'm not home long enough to want to screw with it. I just want to ride!

not that i don't disagree with you that it is too much, but i doubt you're gonna be able to get MOTORCYCLE synthetic oil for 26 bucks. you're looking at 3.3 qts for the engine, 2 qts for the primary (well, 6 ozs over a qt, but you gotta buy the whole qt), and 1 oz for the tranny. plus don't forget the filter.

i just bought all the oil (redline) i need to do my 5k and it cost me over 60 bucks. i guess technically i bought more than what i need since they don't call for tranny/primary change at 5k, but at 10k intervals. but i figured its cheap enough, i'd go ahead and do it anyway.

but if you want a dealer to do it, check around, there is a wide range of prices to do that. i think my dealer charges about 200 for the 1k.
