Well, I have decided (mostly, somewhat) what to do with my 03 King. I'm running it down to Iowa to have a 98 kit put in by Randy. I haven't finalized what I'm all doing yet. Kind of debating between the stage 2-1/2 or stage 4 kit. My best guess is, I'm going stage 4.
The other two areas where I'm still wondering about are addressing the crank and gear drive vs. Harley's newer hydraulic kit. Randy and I talked briefly about both and I'm sure we will hammer out the details tomorrow, but I'm just curious about other people's thoughts.
Assuming I go stage 4 (leaning towards it), would you have the low end addressed (weld, balance, trued, timken)? Part of me thinks that spending this of money, it would be cheap insurance as I have 85,000 on the motor now and if I'm spending the money, I plan on probably keeping it for another 50,000.
I'm torn on gear drive vs the hydraulic kit too. Thoughts?
Thanks. I'm rather excited.

Reason: spelling error
"Hot-Rodding" it with 85k on it, I'd do the crank. Then it is a very slippery slope to 117". Not much more for the stroker and, while you're in there, to bore the cases... Oh, and gears...Good luck!!

I know......that's my fear if the bottom end is apart, my head says "well, why not just really open this thing up." Crap
I would replace all the bearings and seals with best quality bearings you can get. Hydraulic kit with the upgraded oil pump. Maybe, depending on final power, a stronger clutch.

Hoping that the heavier spring that is in my 95" kit now will be enough. See what Randy says
Well, the decision has been made. Made the 5 hour trip down to see Randy in Des Moines. Looking forward to my stage 4 98" I took one ride on his dyna with the same kit and I was sold. Fun little bike.
Leaving the bottom end of the bike alone. Can't wait.
