Doing some research on Rinehart slip-ons. Finding a lot of good feedback on the 4" but not much on the 3.5's. Are the 3.5" less loud / more restrictive?
It'll be interesting to see what others say, but I can't help thinking that a smaller muffler is likely to be noisier, especially from the same brand. I used a pair of S&S SPO mufflers for a while and they were big and mercifully quiet.
My brother in law has the 3.5's and I have the 4's. The 4's seem to be not as loud but have a deeper rumble. I can tell you that he is thinking about selling his 3.5's and getting 4's based on hearing my bike compared to his............

+1 4" is deeper, 3.5 higher pitch. I've had 4" Supertrapps on my '12 SG and 4" Rineharts on my '14 Ultra Limited. Love 'em.
BUT, this is a touring bike. If I had a around town bike, I'd go with something much more 'pronounced'.

IMHO the 3.5 may be the perfect muffler on a harley. The 4.0 is much the same with a tad more "thump". I wouldn't object to either on my bike. Now if they made a 4" that sounded like a 3.5" they might have perfection. The larger can seems to look better but I'm partial to the sound of the 3.5". From what I've heard, the 4" doesn't bark like the 3.5" does.

I have the 3 1/2" Rinehart's with the cat still in the head pipe. It sounds good to me. I like the tone and volume but will be going catless soon. My only holdback is the tuner. I just can't make up my mind on which one
I've used V&H & Pythons (twice) and now the Rineharts 3 1/2". I'll have to say the Rineharts sound better and louder than any I've ever heard but can't comment on the 4" because I haven't heard them.
I've had/have both and ran the Power Dual with both. The only difference I noticed was the sound. The 3.5 were a little higher pitched than the 4.0. The 4.0 is more of a deeper sound and settles down a bit more at highway speeds. Both sound great so you can go wrong either way.
Agree with the sound. I ran 3.5" on my previous '03 and it was more of a stacatto higher pitch sound and the 4" on my '12 is more of a deeper sound.
One item not sound related is the 4" has detents to clear the axle nuts. The 3.5" doesn't. I could have run the 3.5" on my '12 but would have had to "modify" (hammer a dent in) to clear the axle nuts.
