Depends where you are in life, if it was me 20 years ago putting kids through school and working 2 jobs, I'd spend the 3K. At this stage of my life getting closer to the light and not sure how many new bikes are in my future I'd (and in fact DID) go for the new K...
I am going to keep this thought as I am getting closer to the light as well thanks mazz
I'm not getting any younger either, either way it will be a cash transaction, no financing. Have no vehicle payments and less than four years to go on my home so trying to decide what to do. Oh and the bike in pic is my old SG not my current limited, never had a thought about making tourpack detatchable carry to much stuff and 90% of the time wife is on the back so need it.
I've got an '06 FLHTCI, Black Cherry Pearl, (I love the color). I've personalized it with various doo-dah's, e.g., custom seat, gas cap, engine chrome, etc. The most important thing I did was add a 6-speed trans and true duals, so I'm in to the bike at $18K, doo-dah's and seat at another $2k, and the tranny and exhaust at $3.5k. I'm up to $23.5k. I'm retired and, thank God, there's enough $'s available if I really needed a new bike. But, guess what?
The bike I have has been built for me. I love it. I don't know if I can buy into the Moco's new offerings, especially since, I believe, the new water-cooled heads will be available next year on all tourers, once integrated into the traditional bat-wing fairing.
KEEP IT!. My brother has an '06 limited ultra w/35k miles on it. Just recently he was having oil pump issues. It came down to two choices, spend 3plus grand to install up grades and to bring it up to a 103 or sell it and get a 2014. Well he decided to go with the up grades and the 103. The best decision was to keep it because of all the after market add on parts to fit his style and comfort. So keep it and put many wonderful mile on it. Don't just try to keep up with the Jones's. My .02
I looked at the wetheads when I was at Daytona Bike Week a little bit ago. Even went so far as to talk to the sales guy. Said I would think it over then got on my bike, thought about everything I've added and how it feels like it fits me. Then thought about starting over again from stock. That did it. I will keep what I have.
That said, another poster said it well. What makes sense and doesn't make sense really doesn't matter. Look at your finances then do what makes you happy. If someone else doesn't think it makes financial sense, too bad. Its your life and your money
