Default updated tensioners thread

Ok heres an update with pics (hopefully) about my cam shoe tensioners... I ordered the gasket kit, cam shoes, jig, and adjustable pushrods from Cyco Gaskets...awesome customer service...ordered them on Monday and had them Thursday...also bought a service manual off Ebay...just to be covered...thats worth its weight in gold btw...not to bad of a job till you get to the rear tensioner...did a little poking around on youtube and saw a video of a tool a guy made to remove rear tensioner WITHOUT removing cams...so I made my own! after a little tweaking I got it to work...and it works great! Now for a couple of questions regarding startup after all this has been apart...Should I crank over motor for a bit before I let it fire up to get the oil circulating?? or just fire it up?? Also on the exhaust bracket at the transmission it is cracked but to get it off there is a bolt behind the clutch cable that I cant get at and dont want to remove said cable (is it that hard to do?? with adjustment and all?? I know I have the book..prolly just gonna do it) But my question is can I weld it while its on the bike???I can get at it fairly easy..just didnt know if its recommendable to weld a part while still mounted on bike... I know a pretty long post but pumped about changing out the tensioners and saving the dough...

I've welded on my chopper several times. But first disconnecting the battery and voltage regulator. That's only if I can't remove whatever it is I need to weld.If you didn't use assembly lube when you put things back together I would let it spin to build up some oil pressure. But cut off fuel supply so you don't "gas wash" the cylinders and ofcourse pull plug wires. You could even pull the plugs to get maximum R.P.M. /oil flow when engageing starter.

While it is often done, welding on computer controlled vehicles is a risky business. At least unplug the ecm and battery.
