It would seem to me that there are several reasons they are trying liquid cool.
1) riders/passenger comfort
2) meet epa standards easier
3) able to add some compression for better power.

Seems like the changes were made to address rider comfort issues, not engine longevity.

I have 3,800+ miles on my '14 Limited, but mostly at ambients below 80. Will find out this riding season if engine temps are an issue, but for now, my impressions are the cooling system is effective. Would still prefer having an oil cooler too, but will see how it performs w/o one for now.
Hammz, when you say "for the record" EITMS activates no matter what the motor temp is, but on any nice day that's over 80 deg every time you stop? I just gotta know exactly which manual you read that in?

Don't believe you'll find the info in the manuals. H-D released a special bulletin on this.

What does the new “twin cooled” system actually do?
It enables the MoCo to continue to manufacture its traditional air-cooled V-twins, while complying with ever-tightening EPA regulations, improving rider comfort and also improving performance. Not living in a hot land I can't get excited about head and oil temps, so have never paid attention to them!

The new Twin Cooled motor also gives those with too much time on their hands something to nit pick the hell out of when they should be riding strictly for the enjoyment of riding. I like mine, nuff said.
