Motor oil in motor. Gear oil in gear box. Formula + chain lube in chain case. I'm no expert but it just makes sense to me.

Use gear oil in the gear box because shear is greater in the tranny

Redline in the RK tranny.Redline in the chopper 5-speed in summer;but it shifts better with Amsoil Severe Gear in the winter-a little lighter oil.

The best part about trying different trans fluids on a touring bike is that its only one quart and easy to change. If you haven't tried it give the red ride with shock proof a try. Most that do are sold on it!

Just got my New RK back from the dealer for the 1000 mile service. They installed their HD brand of 20W50 in the engine & Primary & BellRay 80W140 in the tranny. On my next oil change i'll be using Amsoil in all of it with 75W140 gear lube in the tranny like I've done on all my bikes for the last 15 years.
