Popping & Backfiring ?
I was having quite a bit of popping on decel, probably like you, but decided to just upgrade my exhaust as part of my winter improvement program (sounds official, huh). Ireplaced my exhaust with Rinehart TD's and when I went to remove the old exhaust headers, I could just about remove them without a wrench! Couldn't believe it. That was probably the source of my popping problem. My new exhaust doesn't do it, but I also torqued the exhaust flange per specs.
May not be your problem, but easy enough to check.

After the dyno, the heat does seem to have been reduced, the high ping still occurs but nothing like it was, and the popping in the pipes has been reduced but still there.
This makes the 2nd dyno they have put on the bike. Are you suggesting the popping sound is related to improper tuning? Should I call them and take it back for another dyno?
The one thing that I kept getting from the dealer was they could not figure out why the right side pipe was getting as hot as it was. I mean, it was realllly hot. When I would check the temp at the pipe itself.. at the end pipe, it was 450+ degrees.. AT THE ENDCAP!...
Hmmm, Just got mine back from the shop, had the 2500 service and a re-Dyno'd. Before the 2nd retune, it got very very hot, would have high ping (pre-detonation ping, like using low grade gas), and had a lot of down pressure popping when coming to a stop thru the Rhineharts. My heating problem was so bad, it turned the end cap red. At night, friends would say flames actually came out of the right pipe when i would downshift.. hehe, looked kewl thou
