Default 2013 FLHTK problem

Installed ventilator and pc5 back in January. Rode a little in February maybe 20 miles, Rode 50 mile 3 weeks ago trouble free. Rode Wednesday get 10 miles from home bike starts spitting sputtering and eventually quits. Started back up and quits again. Get bus er code on speedo. Wait 10 minutes bike starts and I go to gas station to put fresh fuel in since the fuel in the tank was from November. No problems on the way to the gas station or after 100 miles.
Today I start the bike and while letting it warm up it stalls out while idling. Starts back up and ride to my friends house. Go to leave there and bike will not start and get the bus er code again. After 15 minutes the bike starts and runs fine all day today 150 miles. I'm starting to get pissed. Anybody know what's wrong here? Battery is fully charged. Checked the ECM plug and plug to power commander. Help!!

disconnect the pc5.

and reconnect it.

probably not a good connection- or even bent pins from previous install.

Yeah unplugging the PC5 and re-plugging it would be a good start or just disconnect it all together and try it without. If it still does it, bring it in.. should be under warranty if its a '13.

Thanks for the replies. I disconnected and reconnected the pc5 yesterday and it acted up again today. I'm thinking the pc5 is the problem...

I will say that when the bike starts it runs flawlessly.

When it's acting up, bypass the pc5 and see if that corrects it. On my last bike, I bought a used pc5 and had some of your problems. Turned out it was a couple of bent pins on the pc5. Straightened them out and never had any more problems.

Getting codes p0134, p0154, and p0031. Cleared codes, took off the power commander and went for a 30 mile ride. Just checked codes and nothing came up. What damage can be done without the pc5 or stage 1 download?

persistant pinging ( preignition) can burn a hole in the piston.

this sound like pebbles rattling in a coffee can.

most likely to occur when accelerating rapidly, pulling a load up a hill.

the ECM will retard ignition timing if it senses pinging. the retarded timing will reduce power and you'll have to downshift to keep going.

experience any of this?

Did not experience any pinging but I know it's gotta be running lean. I inspected the pc5 and didn't see any bent pins. I want the pc5 to work but I want piece of mind when I hit the starter also.

I use xieds, there are all kinds of "tuners", I also know a few guys running no tuner/download/etc at all and have no problems.

One of the reasons that I wouldn;t use a piggyback tuner is the added connections.

MOST electronic problems I see at work are bad connections, adding extra connections doubles the chances of something going wacky.

the voltages and current of the sensors to the ECM are low ( usually less than 5 volts in milliamps) and a little corrision or a bad pin contact can cause real problems with the data to the ECM.

a misinstall of parts can also put the weight of the rider right on the ecm and the cable connections- saw that with a "custom" seat.
