upgrade??
I have seen it stated often that it is cheaper to buy an Ultra and adapt it to look like an SG, than the other way around! You can take the tourpak off an Ultra to reduce bulk, when you don't need it, however I have never ridden my Glide with Mrs B without our tourpak, she likes it too much! If you take Mrs S bike shoppin', you know what you both will end up with!
2010 Limited with some stuff
Thanks for the responses. Many choices to make, and I prefer not to make a poor choice! I lean toward the Street Glide as the vast majority of my riding is solo, with a few trips thrown in. The wife is an extremely fair weather rider, so she would not spend a great deal of time in the saddle with me. Y'all have offered several options which I like, thanks! More to consider. Glad I'm not in a rush!!
I am looking for something fairly new.... is there a range of years to look for or to avoid? I probably will change exhaust and intake if changes have not been made. What about tuners? I'm used to carbed bikes, so FI is new to me....what to look for in a tuner?? Anything in particular to look for or be concerned with as far as other problems?? If things work out, I may be looking at 2013 or 14 model SG.... at least that is my "leanings" at this time.

With some of these items as criteria, why not look at the Dyna Switchback? Or a Heritage Softail? The Dyna can be stripped down in mere seconds for the jaunts around town and there is very little extra weight on it. The Softail doesn't have much extra weight either. Just something to consider. Good luck on your search.
I too would suggest looking at the switchback. I had one, until I went to a road king (at 6'3" the dynamic was a bit small for me) and it is a great bike. Dress it up for trips strip it down around town. I added a quick detach fairing and it was a good looking bike and handles 2 up no problem and rips it up when stripped. It's 100 lbs lighter than the road king and that may be easier on your joints. Though you can't go wrong on anything in the touring line up. Good luck.
find yourself a nice Electra Glide, I went from a XL1200C to a Electra Glide Custom, Beautiful bikes. Great for 2 up, I don't know why people to say they aren't as nimble in small spots.. I never have trouble with mine. I love how versatile they are, Mine can be dressed up in full tour gear (pack, big comfy seat, all tools and spare fuel needed) or stripped down to just a bike in minutes.. I love it!

This is great advice also , the Dyna switch back is a great bike.
New guy here... looking to move from Sportster to something more suitable for touring/trips. I'm 60+, 5'7", have ridden for just a few days now..... got my first bike at 16. Have had a few scrapes along the way.... high side, low side, hit car... used to race hare scrambles and enduros until my knees went out.... replaced the right knee 2 years ago, and have arthritis in both ankles. I ride in rain and cold. I'm not into a chrome garage queen...bikes are meant to be ridden and i will ride! I don't care for a lot of chrome. I am after function, not looks. My Sporty is set up with forward controls, floor boards, bags, and windshield. I love this bike, but want something a bit more comfortable now that wife and I are doing a bit more traveling. So i'm looking for your suggestions, pros and cons. I like the Street Glide with the fairing and the radio/sound system. that would be somewhat important to me. I like the looks of the Road King except for the headlight nacelle. I think a EG may be too large for me.... I do ride to work daily and do short hops around town...not sure i'd like the extra weight. Like the looks of a Dyna....more sporty.
So I guess I'm saying bags and windscreen are important. fairing pretty high on my list as is a sound system. Dependable.... I would mod up if necessary, but dependability is over performance. What are your opinions??? What do you like? Not like? What needs to be done to improve performance without sacrificing dependability? What are required add-ons?
Thanks in advance for your input. i look forward to spending more time here!!!
