Have you ever had your your front tire changed out OP?
Due to them usually going 1-2 of the rear tire replacements I think it a good PM move to go ahead and change out the bearings on the front wheel just to be on the safe side.

I had the front tire replaced by a dealer @ 12k miles. I have 30k now and will need a new front this year. The wheels are the cast 28 spoke that came stock on the bike if that matters. They do look like plastic cased bearings, have they changed anything about them since? I contacted the dealer this morning to give him a heads up that the bike was coming his way and he said if it's just bearings and no other damage then I should be out the door for about a buck and a half......not bad I guess.

Had my front wheel bearing go with less than 11k miles on my 09 Road King, the good thing is the replacement bearing was still good at 62k miles when I traded in the bike.

Eric, that's exactly what mine looked like! Anyway the dealer got the bike yesterday morning and it was ready for pick up last night.......$143.00 out the door, could have been worse. But my dealer is pretty good.....

I wonder if it's the bearing or the installation, I swapped mine out @ 30K 2 front and 4 rear just for peace of mind they were all OK. Pretty easy to stress the bearings during install.

2011 Ultra Classic, bearing went at about 7500 miles, no pressure washer involved. Thankfully I had an extended warranty.

Default $40

Each time I replace a tire, I replace the bearings. I just replaced the front tire at an independent shop. Bearings $10 x2, replacement $20, $40 total. It takes about 3 tools and 15 minutes to remove and the same to put it back on. This last time it cost me $100 for 2 sets of brake pads.

Interesting and timely thread for me. I have an '09 FLHR with just short of 9k mi, and pulled the front wheel last night to install a fender rail trim. That went well and had every expectation of coming home tonight and reinstalling the front wheel and riding tonight (and all weekend...). But, as is the normal course of things, I always take a couple minutes to look things over for anything obvious and naturally check the bearings. At 9k I expected no issues so imagine my surprise when turning one it felt rather rough, dry and 'bumpy' for lack of a better term. The other was tight and smooth. So, I have to assume the rough one is either already bad or quickly heading there.

I immediately roll over to my local HD shop (which I have not yet had the pleasure of doing any real business with) in the hopes there would be someone qualified there to at the bare minimum give me an opinion, and best case to pop in a new set tomorrow. Seems so silly now to have expected that. 30 minutes till their posted service closing time had no tech there and there all day posted service times seems to be restricted to 'inspections only' WTF! I proceeded to brood and weigh my options. The light-bulb came on that at least having parts in hand indeed gave me options. They had 'em and now I have 'em.

So tomorrow AM I make some call and am mulling installing them myself if I can find suitable tools locally. Has anyone used anything from Harbor Freight they would actually recommend? The Harley tool is $300+ and that is probably not on my short list. Everything is mail order and kills the weekend just the same and where I live every good day is gold. Especially after this past winter.
