That's great if they actually do what's on the checklist and don't scratch and bang the bike around.... I picked up a fender dent with 200 miles on the odometer after a tech dropped a wrench on it and forgot to tell anyone. Never again for me. The dealer replaced it after waiting for 4 months.

I do all mine where applicable anymore...at the 500 mile mark or 1k mark, or whatever...I prefer my hand and finger prints all over my bike(s) rather than someone else and again...when applicable. I've had unpleasant dealings with HD service before...But yes...there's good and there's bad everywhere.

I do it myself. Can't hurt to get familiar with your bike in case you get stuck on the side of the road some day. I have the ESP with tire coverage for 4 yrs so the dealer will get any warranty work that needs to be done.

Now I just need to start getting rid of the old oil and 1/4 full quart containers that seem to be piling up in my garage lol.

Take them to your auto parts dealer they will dump them for free.

I agree with this as well, but after that if there are any greasy fingerprints on the bike they'll be mine unless I have a warranty issue.

If I were to buy a brand new bike, I'd have the dealer to the first 1,000 for the same reason, BUT I would go over the bike when I got home to make sure they didn't miss anything. Lot's of stories here about people leaving the dealer with loose screws & bolts. Plus it doesn't hurt to get intimate with your bike.

During warranty, I went to the dealer with a clunking noise. They sent me home with a newly installed comp sprocket, a shifter that wasn't tightened down and a misadjusted clutch. Good to know at some of the basic stuff. The interval services are pretty simple.

and a swig of the orange kool-aid.....their supposed to check the tightness on many critical fasteners but I bet if you mark the fasteners in a way to show if they were touched, your find that 98% of the time they weren't touched......they also will put the same fluid in all three holes which may work for you but not for many of us....I would venture to say that your paying $300++ for fluid changes in the engine, trans & primary only unless your standing there watching and pointing out to the tech that he missed doing this, that, etc.....But it's your money, do what you want.....

not really, you can sit at the service desk and watch them work on your bike and they always ask what you want for lubricants and recommend bel ray for tranny....some of you guys really must have some half assed dealerships.

You must have one of the few good, customer appreciated dealerships. I have never taken my bike to a dealership for services and what I posted was obtained from talking to friends and by reading on line reports on the horror stories encountered at HD dealers...

Yes sir. I agree with you. I did not see a list of fasteners checked, etc. just a 350.00+ bill for a 1k service. I do it now for less than a hundred with premium fluids and my own wrench doing the adjusting and checking. Oh yea, I check the items off on a list so I know its done.
