Loud bang on start up (this is what kills the starter clutch), slow speed slop felt at around 15-30 mph, Jerk whe letting off the throttle or quick acceleration under no load condition.
If you have ESP it won't cost you whole lot and dealer won't even ask question if you complain about it.If no ESP keep riding until it stats to give you problem. On my 07 stock lasted only 9K miles and on our 08 with 35K it was still good but stater went out and dealer replaced it with the recently updated version just had to pay for the rotor.
The dealer replaced my SE compensator, but I had screeching noise when I popped the clutch. Same noise when I'd rev it too high while releasing the clutch. My ESP covered it, but I had to pay for the part, because it was a superseded part. My 09 EGC has 42k mi.
I just got back from a short (2000) mile ride around Ark. I changed all my fluids today and primary drain plug magnet was almost clean of debris. I guess I can go another few miles on this old compensator. My starter did kick back on me once and that was a first.
That was my question...Are you going to see an increase in trash on the magnetic drain plug?
Never saw that with mine. The actual compensator parts that rub together (the cam and sprocket spokes) are actually under loaded because of the weak spring so there is almost no wear there. When the sliding parts run out of travel and slam against the stops, some chunks might be generated eventually, but no fine filings.
Mine sounded like rocks or ball bearings in the primary while riding down the road, along with the other problems that has already been said. That was at 15K, changed to SE comp. and now have 55K.
My 08 made it to 50k miles before it needed to be replaced (by the dealer) in August of 2013. When I had difficulties starting in April of this year, the dealer has said the rotor assembly and stator need to be replaced. I have a feeling that maybe things weren't installed correctly with the first change. Any opinions???

If you had a SE installed in Aug 2013 then now you just need a comp rotor assembly, if they replaced with a stock comp like you had in your 08 then for the new 2014 SE style you will need the stator assembly and rotor portions of the comp.
