Electra glide gas gauge

Electra glide gas gauge
I got a 99 Electra glide and the gas gauge bounces all around. Do you think it is the float, or the gauge itself? With all my bikes, I don't really watch the gauge too much, just top off every longer then an hour ride (which is most of my rides) and have been fine, but I want it to work right. Thanks.

Everyone is going to tell you to ignore it, they're not accurate.. blah blah blah. Which is kind of true.. however it shouldn't be jumping all over. On my old '96 RK I had some issues with the float, and after I pulled it out I could tell the part where the float connects and is supposed to register the fuel level was all worn out from the years of going up and down and wasn't make a good connection any more.
Don't know how hard they are to get out of an EG but it was relatively easy with my Road King..
