Default FLHX outer fairing screw inserts

How do I remove/replace these brass inserts? I purchased a replacement today, as one in my fairing is cross threaded. There is a slotted end on one end of the the insert. Does this screw into the plastic outer fairing with a flat screwdriver? I haven't looked in my service manual yet. Is it explained in there? Thanks .....

Don't screw it in with a screw driver it will break. The slotted end starts in the fairing first, then wind it in with one of the windshield screws with a nut or some washers for a spacer so it doesn't bottom in the fairing. It's a real easy job and makes a better than stock repair.

Usually the pull out themselves from being over tightened. I would try to re tap the hole first and if that don't work wind a screw in and pull it out with some vice grips.
