Default Road King Wider Windshield - seeking input/experience

04 Road King Classic. Might be getting a replacement windshield, and I'm thinking about a wider one. Rifle in particular, if that matters.

What I wonder is if the wider ones are prone to increased buffeting for the rider or steering head shake from their increased width. If any of you have experience with them, I'd appreciate hearing your input.

P.S.
I'll also be going taller. The old shield topped right at my line of vision, driving me nuts. I trimmed it, and while I like looking over it, the increase in highway speed head buffeting is just too much.

i've bought a couple of large windshields. not for my harley but for my 2006 Yamaha Road Star Silverado. It origiionally had a front shield, no fairing and i got a larger shield through Yami parts to put on it. helped a lot with the wind and buffetting. I later put a fairing on it and bought a half moon windshield from Robin and Pat Clark at http://www.customflhtwindshields.net...windshield.htm real good folks to deal with. they even customized the bolt pattern for me. they did a real nice job. i found that the extra inch or so provided by each side really helps push some of it around you and your passenger. Fork lowers are the key to buffeting if you are having a real problem with it. i'm sure much can be found on this site about them too.

I went to an LRS 18" recurve...solved all my problems.
I have experienced on my Staratoliner that the wider shield made it horrible when passing or being passed by tractor trailers...or on very windy days. It really did not seem to change the buffeting.

I'm allergic to bees and get the biggest screen I can find. May not look Kool but they work! Have a Clark 14" flattop on my EG along with all the "wind" gadgets. Haven't been stung yet and can rock to the tunes. Handling isn't an issue. Not sure about gas mileage??

I have a Clearview 17" high by plus 3" wide on my Road King. Does give a larger "pocket" around the body and passenger. Buffeting around the head is dependant on shield height and I think fork deflectors. I know on my Street Glide I tried several different windshields and heights and could never really get rid of the buffeting until I added fork deflectors. Thinking about trying the fork deflectors on my RK. The wider screen also loses some of the classic look to a RK to me.

Give LRS a call, great folks, tell them what you want, they will give you answers.
Beware - not all windshields are poly carbonate.
I would not run anything else.
The LRS Elite Recurve is what I use, nothing better IMHO.

If your trying to solve a buffeting problem by going to a wider windshield you might think about giving the HD fork mounted wind deflectors a try first. The difference is like night and day.

I was wondering if these were as effective on a Road King as they were on my Street Glide.

Checkout the Klock Werks Billboard Flare windshield. It's about 3" wider and flared at the top and sides. I running one now and love it. I also have fork wind deflectors and soft lowers - buffeting gone - very smooth, quiet pocket of air.

Not trying to solve buffeting with a wider shield, just interested in hearing if others have had problems or happy results themselves with a wider shield.

Sometimes a wider shield can cause unpleasant curling behind the shield. Just seeking input from those that have used a wider shield to hear if they did or did not have problems.
