I have a set of Desert Dawgs - I really like them. They don't go all the way across the front of the bike so the engine still gets plenty of air. I've not noticed any additional turbulence when using them. They make a huge difference in cold and rain.
For what it's worth, I had Airlite soft lowers, and they worked well. I ran them in the rain in any temp, and when it was cold out (up to 65-70 degrees) I did not notice any turbulence from them, actually the oppisite (but I do have the other wind deflecting things) - https://www.airlite.ca/
I liked them enough to get hard lowers. The problem is, with the cheap knockoff lowers on ebay are about the same price (minus mounting hardware) looks like you have a black bike so no painting would be needed on the hard knock off's.
They do a great job of blocking the wind and keeping you warmer in the cold. Liked them so much for the wind blocking that I purchased hard lowers off ebay for my 13 SG. Will never take them off.
Have a set on my '12 S.G. they help keep the cold air off, but as soon as it hits 55 degrees they are off. They are of the "leather Like" material and it took awhile to find a dealer that had a set, but worth the search since I rideyear round.
I just ordered a set of hard lowers. I looked at the soft ones but didn't like the look. I ordered the vented hard set off eBay, $110 shipped with glove boxes. I wanted the glove boxes to store little items in that May get crushed it the main bags.
Just got a pair a few weeks. HD ones, made of cordura. Have maybe 75 miles on them so far. Definitely help in blocking cold air. But I have noticed more air in my face, but nothing that can't be dealt with.
I got them for my RK, way back in maybe '95. Tried to use them on a rainy week to the Oregon coast. Not supposed to use them over 50 degrees, a pain to take on and off, get nearly as wet?? Sold them. Have vented lowers with speakers. They never come off. Got some non-vented lowers with speaker pods if anyone is interested??
I have the H-D soft lowers. I really like them, haven't noticed any air turbulence at all. I normally keep it under 90 though.
I leave them on if the temp is under 65, then I fold them up and stuff them in the saddlebags. Don't take up any room at all.
Perfect IMHO.
+1 on the Airlite's. I shopped around for a while before buying them, and I'm glad I did. They are high quality, they look nice, and they work well. I pull them off when the temp hit above 70deg, but with the engine-cooling vent in the middle, you could probably run them year round.
