Hi all, new member here looking for some divine guidance.
I have a 98 fuel injected mm bagger with a big sucker, power commander, and slipons with 14k on it. When warm, it starts acting up. A few times, it has accelerated when I come to a stop (seems to rev ~ 3 - 4K), then goes into limp mode. After a couple of minutes its ride-able, but is missing and pops on deceleration. Sometimes when I stop, it revs to about 1.5K and goes into limp mode. After a couple of minutes it idles back down and runs ok, but I can smell fuel. At higher speeds it runs ok.
It's a California bike, so the connections appear to be all good with no corrosion. There are no codes and I tried wiggling the wires leading to the injectors – but was unable to replicatethe problem. I rechecked all of the power commander connections and they are tight.
From reading this forum about limp mode, it appears the followingcould be my issue: Engine temp sensor – but how do I check this? Coil breaking down when hot - but how do I check this?
There is a local ride on Saturday and I hope to make it…….any suggestions or words of wisdom on what to check or rule out first?

There was no limp mode feature on a 1998 EFI Harley. If it is not firing off one cylinder something else is going on. After bypassing the Power Commander try to pull any trouble codes the bike has stored. High reving could be ETS, or IAC or one of the other sensors that is in the EFI system. While you are bypassing the PCIII check the cam position sensor connector. That is the barrel shaped connector located behind the right side cover. These are known to come loose.
You can check the resistance on the ETS. The service manual has a chart with the values. When mine reved high it was the IAC. You can check to see that it moves when you start the bike up. If it doesn't move you can try to clean it. If it doesn't move after that then it is toast.
