Just returned from a 1300 mile trip and noticed my steering felt heavy and I had a high frequency vibration. I had two different Master Techs ride it and they can't agree on the cause. Spent all day at dealership Saturday. Turns out I picked up a nail on the trip so they replaced the front tire; then they replaced the left front rotor (a little out of spec); and replaced the front pads (cleaned calipers as well); then the new tire wouldn't balance so they replaced the front wheel bearings.
Good news is that everything except the pads was covered under warranty, bad news is that vibration is still there. One tech is saying I need new motor mounts, the other is saying my front calipers could be dragging (or not releasing)
Yep, take it to someone else. Obviously these idiots are clueless. Might help if we knew what your riding too. If it's motor mounts couldn't they put it on a dyno and check that out? If one thinks it's the calipers dragging and not releasing couldn't it also be a bad master cylinder? They obviously need some troubleshooting skills.
So was this high frequency vibration transferred to the grips or front brake lever or something? Do you have stock bars? Grips? Calipers? Pads? Rotors? Please help me understand high frequency (happening often or something you heard?) to see if I have any recommendations for you.
I do know that with my taller bars (17") my bars tend to vibrate more than lower stock bars and I feel it in the grips. I am sure switching to a Kury grip that absorbs more vibrations would probably change things but it not an issue for me.
The vibration is felt mostly in the boards and the grips. Seems to peak and wane as you sway the bike from left to right (between 30 -35 mph, low rpm). Also notice it when coming up to a light, say 35 -40, pull in the clutch, down her down to first.... it feels like something grinding.
when i hit a turn and lean my dyna the front tire with the harley insignia that has been put in the treed makes a vibration letting me know the lean is getting to the limit of the treed on the tires
Maybe the riser bolts are a little loose and the floorboard bolts as well? This is a tough one. I'd also check the upper motor mount on the front of the engine and the lower motor mounts as well. Maybe some of the rubber motor mounts are dry and cracking or cracked?
