Exclamation Overheated

Hello all, I have a 2000 Road King Classic, 95" kit, EFI race tuner. Rest is somewhat stock. Today, I got stuck in traffic and I think I overheated. The engine started "missing" at idol and my inner legs were on fire. The scary part, is after a 10min dead stop (engine was off for that) I started it backup and from the lower right side (cam area) I started hearing what sounds like a loose heat shield rattling (I know there is nothing like that around that area) I freaked out and did a U-turn to open her up and cool her off. Now, I am getting a really bad back-fire on shifts, low on power, and what sounds like spark knock on roll-on. Any ideas on what was damaged for overheating?

You didn't damage anything by the heat. That happens all the time with a HD. They're built to take it. But you might have some carbon build up or fouled plugs to deal with.

You might want to look at your exhaust pipes near the heads. I got stuck in Houston traffic last year on a 100+ degree day for over an hour. Afterwards, I noticed that my exhaust pipes had cracked near the rear cylinder. A cracked exhaust could cause the backfiring...

Try these fans from one of the sponsors. I have them on my Street Glide and they are great for when you are stuck in heavy traffic.

As already mentioned start by replacing spark plugs and see if it runs better then check for exhaust leaks. A leak near the head will make it run like crap.
