Default Chrome Exchange

I purchased the bike 2009 FLHTCU in 2012. After fighting with rims that were beyond my effort in restoring them to original condition I decided that when I needed new tires I would use a chrome exchange for the front and rear wheels to make up keep much easier. I also decided to do the front forks and brake disc's along with a hidden axle from Hogpro. Of course there is always many of the little things that "nickle and dime" you with small accessories/bolts to finish it off that are discovered during the process. For now I am happy and looking forward to enjoying the look and ease of cleaning.

As for the tires I went with American Elite and I also used Dyna Beads to avoid the external weights.

Nice job!

Did mine with rechrome and definitely a lot cheaper. I did the lowers, both rims, all three rotors and both front calipers.

The "gotchas" for me where the chrome bolt kits (rotors, calipers), standard bolt kit for the rear pulley, chrome front wheel spacers and chrome cow-bells, valve seals, fork oil, brake fluid, bearings, brake pads. All told about $600 or so added to the cost of the rechrome parts. $1800 total with my labor. Still a lot cheaper then what people pay for a single rim.

I still need to find a chrome bleeder valve for the fronts.

One thing I would do over, is replace the entire fork seal kit. I did just the seals and had one leak. Had to go back in and replace the whole kit.

Thanks all. I will have to post a closer view of the front rim to show how bad they were. I had a friends mechanic do the work so cheaper than the dealer. All the seals were changed out in the forks and a heavier oil used. For now the calipers are fine IMO (well maybe it's enough money spent for now).

I just can't wait to ride it. I had arthroscopic surgery on my left knee two months ago (non weight bearing for the first six weeks) so hopefully tomorrow I will get my first ride. Regardless Rolling Thunder will be the next long road trip.
