I have the HD, buddy has the J&K, can't tell the difference in reception. Mine was cake to install, I wasn't there when he did his but said it was easy as well.
I tried the dakota digital and harley boom they both sucked. I literally could not pick up any station except weather then decided to try antenna concepts per the parts manager at my local dealer. It works great I live in the sticks at home I can usually get 4 different stations. In town or on the highway I pick up 20 or so.
I had the HD Boom powered antenna that mounts under the batwing fairing and the antenna wires wind up around the outside of the inner fairing. It worked well except that from day one I could here annoying electrical interference when the bike was running. Over time I basically just got used to it.
Then I saw on the HD web site that they had a new design that was still powered, smaller and mounted on the inside of the outer fairing.
A lot of people had mentioned that they've seen the same design in auto parts stores for much less than the HD one with the HD logo. I went to my stealer to buy/order one but when they looked up the number it kept coming back to the antenna I already had. I don't know if they're trying to use up the old ones or what so I said forget it.
I also saw a lot of people talking about another hidden antenna on e-bay. It's not powered and its dirt cheap ($20) so I decided to give it a shot and ordered one. This one also mounts to the inside of the outer fairing.
I installed it a couple months ago and I gotta say that it is just as good as the powered HD hidden antenna and there is absolutely no extra noise from interference. I am very pleased with it and can highly recommend it.
JK, I had the short whip, swapped to HD Boom hidden which is a HUGE fail and ended up getting the splitter (i.e. antenna Y-cable) to add a $20 auto antenna under my batwing which now works pretty much the same as stock HD. Also, word to the wise, anyone running TruckLight LED headlight will experience audio interference so you must watch how you run the antenna wires, in relation to headlight wires. Trust me...I know.
Had the HD hidden antenna, it sucked. Went to the J&M hidden and it worked almost as good as the full whip. I can tune in a station from Topeka, KS while in Kansas City, MO.
I went with the J&M for the radio and CB. The radio is as good or better in reception. Have not tried the CB yet. Came with simple instructions and easy to install.
