My '11 RKC 103" stock had very little use for 6 gear.
Performance upgrades fixed that.
Much mo betta to ease around now, 6 gear has purpose!
Two up touring loves it, it's not all about WOT.
They definitely added the two teeth on the rear pulley in 09 when they changed the frame. 07-08 are the over geared years
I sorta disagree. I think they did it right it those years but everyone bitched. I can ride in fifth all day above 70. But I have overdrive if I want. I think too many refused to understand what they had.
2010 FLHX Stock Engine: Almost all my riding is two up and neither the wife or I are small people. I don't go into 6th gear till I'm above 65. It has more than enough power.
I think of lugging as not a speed or RPM.......I can ride in 6th gear at 45MPH. As long as I do not accelerate quickly....and just ride along at a steady pace.....bike does not lug. I do not do this, of course....I usually ride with the rpms right around 2000..
If I am in 3 gear....2000, 4th gear.....2000......5 th gear......maybe 2200rpm.

Really? You touched the throttle on my 07 and it started pinging like crazy in sixth gear on a warm day. They definitely did not get it right. Actually how I landed on this forum. Found all kinds of other guys bitching up a storm about the same issues I was having back in 07. The MotorCo eventually did resolve all the issues on our dime as upgrades to buy but man the 07s were painful to own. A useless sixth gear was one of the big issues. I think it was the third or fourth ECM update that solved the pinging but by the time it came around most of us had already gone to at least a stage one upgrade to make the things road worthy. 08s were marginally better.
I just got back from a nice ride upstate NY(visited a friend) I was cruising along at around 70/75 and popped it into 6th gear, the bike doesn't even hit 3000rpm's at that speed. when do you guys use 6th gear? it can't be good to lug the bike, but I figure it also can't be good to run at higher rpm's for a long time............
Look at it this way. Regardless of which gear you're in if you can roll a little throttle into it and the bike accelerates you're not lugging it.

My 07 ran well, pulled 6th at 65 & above no problems. Gearing seemed about right on to me. But, my 07 was a 103 before I took delivery. Never rode a 96.
