Default Fender compatability?

Will the front fender from a 1996 Road King fit my 2001 Road King Classic?

I am pretty sure ANY FL/FLH touring fender from 1954 to 2013 will fit. They changed in 2014. Last week I smashed up my stock Anniverary fender on my 2013. I bolted a mid 70's Shovelhead fender right on. Its still on there now, till I get the replacement I am happy with. As far as I can tell, its not the mounts that are different, but the mud flap mounting. The early Shovel fender is longer and the mud flap "covers" the bottom three inches, and on my 2013, the flap hangs "below" the fender. The overall length stays the same, but how its achived is whats different.
Hope that makes sense.
