Wondering how many have experienced this. Taking a nice ride the other day in a tree lined senic area wearing my half helmet and doing about 55 when I feel something hit around my right ear. I new it was some king of bug because I could feel it wiggling aroung at the bottom of the helmet. I thought I brushed it off but a mile or so down the road I feel it crawling on top of my head and it feels like it is biting me. For all I knew it could have been a wasp. By the way I don't have much hair on top so I could really feel it. I quick pulled over, took off my helmet and dumped out worm like creature. Not sure what it was but was gald to get rid of it.
I've had that happen before...but never had a worm. A few weeks ago I was riding down the highway and noticed a spider on the inside top of the shield. Just opened the visor and let it out at about 70 mph...
Funny thing is after you have something like at happen, you think you feel other things inside your helmet...lol.
oh yeah the stinging bugs are the worse, i got nailed in the neck with a bee that left its stinger behind.... i will say thats one thing good about the full face helmet, theres less of a chance, i had my half helmet on yesterday and got a bug just above my right eye,, that hurt
Just happened to me last week. Saw a "bug" hit my face and didn't think anything about it until felt a sharp stinging. I brushed my hand at the helmet strap on the right side and saw the bee fly out. I had two nice sized welts on my cheek for the next few days.
I had a wasp fly up my jacket sleeve last year and go bananas on my arm. I got stung so many times I had to go to the doctor because I could not bend my elbow or wrist because of the swelling.
The first one was a yellow jacket that hit the palm of my hand then up the jacket sleeve it went. It stung the entire way up my arm before I could get kill the vial thing. I remember my friends at the time where wondering why I was beating my arm and then taking my jacket off while riding down the road.
The second was a Bumble Bee. These are fun to hit at 60mph you can see this black dot appear not to far out in front of you. It struck me right on the lens of my sunglasses. There was just guts covering my face and I couldn't see anymore out of that eye because the lens was just covered. The next day I had a black eye due to the impact.
One of the many reasons I started wearing my helmet with a drop down shield. Along with long sleeve shirts with tight wrist and neck openings, once those bastards get inside your shirt they nail every part of you they can get to......
I caught a dragonfly right between the eyes one time. I had just started going after hitting a red light and out of nowhere this black shape hit me in the face. I felt my head shoot backwards and saw nothing but bug guts on the visor of my full face helmet. I was so thankful to be wearing it that day.
I got part of what I think was a dragonfly stuck in my ear...it was still alive and sounded like it was scraping on my eardrum...not a pleasant experience. Luckily, I was close to home, but I was unable to get it out, and had to go to the local urgent care, and they were finally able to pull it out. I started wearing ear plugs the very next day.
