Default xylan coating?

I'm lined up to get the Xylan coating on the new SG Saturday morning. It's an incredibly hard fluoropolymer that should be a great paint protectant over the life of the bike. Does anyone else have Xylan on their bike?

I am not familiar with this product, but I did some research on Whitford's website. I am assuming that you plan to spray this on the painted parts of your bike and I am may be wrong, but this does not seem like an appropriate product for this application . Their products seem to be geared toward fastener/hardware and rubber component coatings.

Generally, these Whitford coatings are designed for lubrication and wear resistance. Also, what will the paint look like in a few years when this coating starts chipping off??

It cures at 400 degrees F, how are you going to have the various plastic panels survive this without melting?

This reminds me of the poly-gly coating of the 70's that was supposed to "protect" your cars paint for life. It worked GREAT, if you didn't live to long!

I had Dirty Harrys Detailing in Rochelle Park, NJ apply Gtechniq to my bike and love washing the bike off with just water!

I've seen a lot of "paint protection" nightmares in my line of work. The purpose of paint is to keep the metal from rusting. Just let it do it's job. If you scratch it, just fix it.

This is actually being applied by the dealer, they call it Xylan but I'm assuming it's some kind of variant. Apparently it is hand applied, not sprayed.

And yes, tree sap, bugs, and whatever else that lands on it is supposed to come off nice and easy. I'll ask Saturday and get a more specific description of it.

Are you sure you have it spelled right? I had that stuff put on my 08 infiniti and only spray waxed it occasionally over the years and seems to be holding up, they use it on the interior too, if were talking about the same stuff.

Opti Coat "2" is another. It used to be only done by professionals, but they reformulated it for consumers. You still need to be careful applying it though. If you get high spots, it looks terrible
